Help save the whales

As you read this, the Japanese whaling fleet is busy killing whales in the Southern Ocean. Just like they did last year and just like they will again this time next year if nothing changes at the International Whaling Commission (IWC). But there’s hope.
Not only does President Obama have the power to make those changes; he’s already promised he would. Here’s what he told Greenpeace back in 2008:
"As president, I will ensure that the U.S. provides leadership in enforcing international wildlife protection agreements, including strengthening the international moratorium on commercial whaling. Allowing Japan to continue commercial whaling is unacceptable."
It’s time for President Obama to keep his word and save the whales. Join me and tell him to end commercial whaling once and for all by reforming the IWC. Just click on the link below…

* Sorry, my blog seems like an obituary lately π

Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band rose to prominence during the 1960s with an experimental brand of rock music that was inspired by the blues and featured offbeat rhythms and lyrics.
Their best known album is 1969's "TroutMask Replica," and while it was not a commercial hit, it won critical acclaim and is still considered among the most prominent art-rock albums ever made.
Vliet was born Jan. 15, 1941, in Glendale, Calif. As a teenager, he befriended Frank Zappa, whose own brand of experimental music became popular in the 1960s and 1970s.
Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band released their first album, "Safe as Milk," in 1967, featuring songs with titles like "Zig Zag Wanderer" and "Abba Zaba." While band members would change over the years, the group continued to crank out music through the 1970s up to 1982's "Ice Cream for Crow."
Vliet retired from music after 1982 and turned to painting, enhancing his reputation as a member of the avant-garde.
Vliet is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Jan Van Vliet.

A tragic loss: Maya Mayhem

It is with a heavy heart that I write this blog. I received an email from Maya's best friend that Maya just died. I still can't believe it. My daughter Jasmine just received a test massage from Maya over the summer in Rome. We were so thrilled to have such a great talent bless our team. Maya was very smart and easy to get along with. She was so eager to work and was fun to communicate with. My daughter and I are both shocked. I could not sleep at all last night- I had dreams and nightmares both about Maya. I do not know her Mother but keep putting myself in her shoes, mentally and try to imagine the pain she is going through. Maya's friends too, must be horrified. I have a frog in my throat when I think "when it's your time to go, you go". I just can't believe that. She was young, healthy and feisty. WHY HER!???
Below is part of the email from her friend. I asked her HOW did she die, I just wanted to believe it was spam, that it was untrue, but alas, it is true:
"On December 6th, Maya went out to look for her neighbor's cat that had escaped from the garden. She went down on the train tracks near Stazione Casalina in attempts to save the kitten and was struck by a high speed train and was killed instantly. We had a Memorial for her on Sunday and her body will be cremated here in Rome. Her mother came right away and she will be leaving this weekend. We are all deeply shaken and saddened by this tragic loss and I miss my friend more and more everyday."
Don't the trains use horns and whistles anymore!?? Wtf!!?? I am saddened by this and my heart goes out to her friends and family. She will not be forgotten. You can read her bio she made for my web site below. It stings even more to know a fellow hippie/Dead Head who risked (and gave) her life to save an animal was taken from this early decades too early. Heaven now has a loving, caring, sharp witted rocker up there with them, probably massaging all the deceased rockers (Hendrix? Joplin? Morrison? and for sure Garcia and Lennon/Harrison). You are missed Maya. Rock on.
Written by Maya:
"I was born in Lisbon Portugal to an American mother and Portuguese father. I moved to Manhattan at the age of 5 and then moved to Palo Alto California at the age of 10 where I unlearned the hard core street smarts I learned in NYC and began to be a nature loving hippie.
Going to Jerry Garcia's high school I became exposed to Grateful Dead shows at the age of 14 (as they played every year at Frost Amphitheater), and at the age of 16 I was off on Dead Tour traveling to country. This was the year I learned about health and well being that would effect the rest of my life. I got certified in massage at the age of 18 and immediately started working in spas and began a life healing.
I have been in Europe for the last 11 years and am still a massage therapist, vegetarian (since the age of 16), and do yoga and meditation daily, and love to heal people.
I am a techno DJ and producer and I believe that even when I DJ I use the speakers as my massage table, so the theme of massage and healing touches everything I do."

Hello there my name is Rosa. I am from Hermosillo, Mexico and now live in Phoenix, AZ. I got started with massage in the summer of 2009. After graduating from the Arizona School of Massage therapy I started working at the school as a teacher's assistant, I also work at a spa. I enjoy being a massage therapist because it gives me a chance to help people.
Deep tissue is my favorite massage to give, people are always amazed that someone as small as me can have so much power. I have trained many different modalities including cranial/sacral, reflexology, Swedish, sport massage, and trigger point.
I am professional, easygoing and I take massage therapy seriously. I want every massage I give to be better than the one before.
Look for me in Phoenix!!!

Hey, my name is Isabell. I am a massage therapist with a background in modern dance and classical ballet. What brought me to become a masseuse is the fact that instead of ruining the body by dancing/training excessive hours I wanted to do something that heals the body.
My massage is very individually, depending on your needs. Some need it soft, some need it harder and some people think, it's only works if it hurts. Well the last one is not my opinion, but sometimes just the believe in it helps. I have also studied ayurvedic medicine in Germany and am an ayurvedic medical practitioner. What that means for you, when you get a massage is that I might work slightly different than you are used too. I always use warm oil, which is often medicated with herbs, as this supports the healing process. I massage also with normal massage oil, if this is preferred.
Getting a massage is about trust. If you allow yourself to relax completely and have trust that the therapist will do the right thing, at the right moment on your body, you will find out that you will be able to receive much more help and healing, than you would otherwise.
I am looking forward to meet you.

Email me at info@drdot.com and please put "Chyenna/Phoenix"
Hello! My name is Chyenna and I’m a Licensed Massage Therapist in the Phoenix area. I moved from Iowa the beginning of 2009. I absolutely love it here! I’ve been practicing massage therapy since 2006 and I fall more and more in love with what I do every single day! There is no better feeling that to know that every person I come in contact with not only looks forward to being in my hands, but leaves with a satisfaction that they can’t get anywhere else.
I attended the Massage Therapy program at La’ James International College in Iowa. Soon after graduating I took the National Certification Board for Massage Therapy and Bodywork, became certified and jumped right into work. I’ve worked in a variety of settings, from high end spas to chiropractic offices, and have worked with an array of different types of clients, from field workers to MMA fighters, all of which have helped me develop, grow and learn. I’ve come to realize that I favor deep tissue work, but I’m also able to perform each massage differently to accommodate my clients’ needs. I realize that not every person needs the same type of massage, with the same amount of pressure, and work in the same areas. Each individual has their own tension areas and different goals for their massage. I strive to reach those goals.
The modalities I’ve trained for are Swedish, deep tissue, sports massage, prenatal, chair massage, reflexology, hot/cold stone therapy, and several spa bodywork modalities including sugar scrubs, body wraps, spray tanning and more. No matter what you’re looking for, I’ll perform my best to ensure that you are able to attain a sense of well-being and health in the most enjoyable way possible!
I feel blessed to be a part of the Dr. Dot team of therapists in the Phoenix area and I look forward to working with you soon!
